Energy Internet has recent↑☆×€ly been "very hot" in the en←π¥ergy circle, with the concept ♦" of "Internet +", the tradit≠↓✔ional energy industry¶¶ seems to have usheredΩΩ in a wave of innovative t±★✘↓hinking. Also in the context of the enσ∑∏€ergy revolution, we ∞"must open up a new way to change th•★e mode of energy development, and ‍§λthe prospects of this road in±δ‍ the end how? More attenφγ≠₹tion has been drawn to the industry ε∏"and outside.

"The energy In★€φγternet is a high degree of integ₹Ωration of multiple types of energy ne™↓↕‍tworks and transport n<≈ etworks" "The basic β≠‌concept of the energy Internet and s •mart grid is the same, and theΩ→∑ content can not be found in÷→ principle different" "The ↑✘¥♣energy Internet is The energy Interneφα∞t is a strong smart grid with∞∞ ultra-high voltage grid as the backb≈•φone (channel), with clean ener≠✔ €gy transmission as the le≤©ading, global interconnec↓σtion and ubiquitous,&q∑↓&δuot; various understandings and ♦×↕αinterpretations of the $βenergy Internet have"↑'♦ appeared, and people are ↕<↔πnot sure what to thin±≈φ≈k about it.

Energy Internet concept was born te★≠±n years ago

From 22 to 24 April, at the foot of< ≈§ Fragrant Hill in Beijinπ©¥♦g, a number of acade§₹π♣micians and more than 50 experts and scπ∏holars participated in an•✔ academic conference on the theme÷₹® of energy Internet. Confere₩ 'nce parties on the concep ✔±t and structure of t↓'he energy Internet, energy Intγ‍÷≥ernet operation mechanism and market m¥±‍odel and other topics for in-dept<↑h discussion, which is so fa$₽♥r China's academic community for t→∞'he energy Internet at ε®the highest level of a seminar m‌←♠↓eeting.

When did the concept of energy Intern♦φ¶et come into being? Cao Junwei, a rese♣♠archer at Tsinghua Universit≥∞y's Institute of Informaα✔↕¶tion Technology, who ha  s long been engaged in cros•₹s-disciplinary research on informa♥"'tion and energy and power t≠‍$echnologies, believes that in 2♦'↓←004, The Economist magazine publiα ↕σshed an article calle☆ε≠d "buildingtheenergyinternet&quo™↑≥♦t;, which is the earliest liter‌♣£ature to formally put fo♥♠rward this viewpoint.

In 2008, Thomas Friedman,✔¶ a famous American jo∏∞≥urnalist and winner of three Pul↕✔←∞itzer Prizes for journ★βalism, introduced the energy inter↕>net in his monograph "The World≈£↓ is Hot, Flat and Crowded&∞ γquot;, which is also the i™"←₹nitial exploration of the ∏©energy internet at the economics level✔α.

Explorations at the techni★cal level also took plac₹αe around 2008, when Germδ←any put forward the E-E ☆"βNERGY programme, with an investment of ☆₽'about 140 million euros, to make ₩∞∑full use of information and comπ∞munication technologies to solve th 'αe new problems faced by t≤☆♥✘he future power systλ§ ¥em dominated by distrib‌★™λuted energy supply,  γwith the aim of creating a brand newπ™™  energy Internet from t≤α• he distribution network to the circ×↓♠≤ulating power grid.

In 2009, in the U.S. city of Dubuq$ ₽ue, IBM and the governme↑↓✔nt began to build the fi÷∞¶φrst smart city with anεπ↔♣ intelligent energy network, in ¶♣™order to create a connection be≠Ω≠tween all the resource&∑£s of the city, including water,✘α∞¶ electricity, oil, gas, transport δ , public services and so on.

The energy Internet has attra©δcted widespread attenti↓ε"×on in the country, pro¶¶&γbably more because of Rifkin's b∞∏ook "The Third Industria§✔©l Revolution", wh♣"☆ ich imagines that "in the upcomin✔♥g era, we will need to create an &#Ω  ☆39;energy Internet', so thaεεt hundreds of millions of p↑γ±↕eople can produce green renewable®♣♠✘ energy in their homes,♣↕ offices and factories". gree  n renewable energy."

The concept became more & widely known when Liu Zhenya, Chairman$↔★> of State Grid Corporation, put forwa$βrd the idea of "building a glob$≠al energy internet to serve th<εe sustainable develoφ↕ ‍pment of human society&q£&∏σuot; at an academic co₹β÷✔nference in Washington, D. ★C., in 2014.

Different Perspectives on the Ene€§₹₽rgy Internet

Liu Zhenya proposed in his book ★≤ ±"Global Energy Int←>ernet" that the global ↕✔energy Internet is composed of←<☆ transcontinental and transnati↓♠onal backbone grids and power grid©δ"s of various voltage levels in vario™Ω±↕us countries, connecting ☆∏←♣"one pole and one road&quo$t; (the Arctic and the Equator) with   large energy bases, adaptγ™×ing to the needs of accessing variou'♥ s distributed power sources, and being↕® able to transmit renewable e★∏→&nergy sources such as wind ener∑&±♥gy, solar energy and₹→φ₽ ocean energy to various types of useε≠§rs, as well as providing a service for →< the sustainable development of hu↑≠‍±man society. It can transmit renew₩‌≥able energy such as wind×λβ energy, solar energy and ocean enλφαergy to various types of us≥ ™ers, and is a global energ∏★•♦y allocation platform with a wide range§φ£ of services, strong configuration cap←©Ω ability, high safety and relia↓♥€αbility, and green and low-ca★φrbon.

"The energy Internet i₹® n my mind is a compreheε♠nsive energy network composed≥  of physical systems, n♣¥amely the power grid, gas network, •γφ™heat network, transport network, etc∏§<." Xue Yusheng, acad←‍emician of the Chinese ☆π× Academy of Engineering and honora≈€☆ry president of the State Grid Ele£₽λctric Power Academy,'≥™↓ also offered his views.

Professor Yu Zitao, director of∑≠ the Institute of Thermal Enginee'≈ring and Power Systems at Zhejiang Ω₹÷University, believes that the ©" development of a high-efficiency ★₩₩energy network will take £&the route of high-efficiency g'§radient utilisation, in which ←the energy of systems that can indepe>≥±φndently output electric∑♦♠≤ity, heat and cold will be use♥≠d in a gradient manner, so that the c"δπ¶omprehensive utilisation↓'♥ rate will reach more than 90%.

Academician Yu Yixin, on the other✔¶&★ hand, said that the basic conce<αpts of the energy Internδ≥φet and the smart grid thaφ≈t we have already discuss←ed are the same, and the conte≤λnt can not be found to be differen∞✘¥t in principle, including intelligent>✔® universal transformers such as ele←→↑ctrical energy routers.

"Due to the diff≠♦‍€erent perspectives that everyone standπ∏s on, different understandings an ±£d views are generated, but from the a®★λcademic level, it is not poss✘α‍≈ible to distinguish who is right and wh×$o is wrong, because the work can be c÷§©arried out from different levels.&q≤≤₩→uot; Cao Junwei told reporε•ters that the development and construc×δ✘<tion of the energy Internet iΩ♣£Ωs a complex systematic project, whiε£επch needs to start from the sy>©"€stem architecture, technology r♦←esearch and development, stand•βards development, poli¥↔≥cy design and other aspects ‌₩☆and links, and the way should beγ★ to take the road of hierarchical gradiγ>Ω≈ng, from small scale to large s™φcale, from simple to complex, from ¶εexperimental to demo αλ↑nstration, and then to the maturit£©y of the promotion.

  SmartGrid or SmarterGrid ‌

Although there are a✘←↕ lot of views on the eΩ÷nergy Internet, there is a§>₩≤n obvious common point is that the smaεrt grid will play an important☆₩©¶ role in building the energy Inter↓ ≈net, so understanding thλ<£e content of the smart grid is crucia÷↑φl to understanding t₩®≈αhe energy Internet.

In fact, the industry and outside t₽©he concept of smart grid undeλ₩∞≠rstanding has long existed di₹ε fferent views, whether it±γ₹ is smartgrid or smarte★λrgrid (smarter grid), ÷♥≤people have their own vie×✘∑ws.

"The essence of the smart grδ≠♦id should be optimisation. The f₹&♠uture of the grid, we≠∏↔ε can not rely mainly on peopα§≈le scheduling, must be thr≈$₽ough information tec★'hnology and computer science δ÷for automatic regulation an δ¥d control, to achieve the whole pΩ✔¥↓ower system completely closed←φ&± loop. For example, the current sched‌®uling in Shanghai, has been ↕ ε•initially done." εΩ'&Lu Qiang, an academicia≤•β¥n of the Chinese Academy of S÷÷§ciences and a professor at Tsingh©←''ua University, put fo±•‌rward the concept of smar∏≥t grid with hybrid cybernetics,λ♦® arguing that the entry of co≠γ→mmunication and mathematicα≤φ↕s into the classical power systeΩ&‍↔m gave rise to the third industλαrial revolution of the power sσ★γystem, which gave rise to•ε& the smart power system.

"By 2020 the State Gri↓'±d Corporation will have fulδ £φly built a unified 'strong ↓$₩smart grid' with technology★✘ and equipment fully reaching the ₩♥international advanced level." Acφ✔<cording to Shu Yinbiao, γφΩgeneral manager of the  ♠φState Grid Corporation, Ch‍≥¥ina's smart grid includes six€ links in the power system, <☆✔®namely power generati♣↔on, transmission, subst≥®γ<ation, distribution, power consumptiδ↓on and dispatching, and is ch•↑₽∏aracterised by the "↔>‌smart" technologies of informati∑÷sation, digitisation, ∏✔automation and interaction. China&★↑≥λ#39;s smart grid is f≈∞≈≤irst of all a strong power grid↕λ, in which, with a long distance, ₹≤‍σlarge capacity transmission char★₹‍acteristics of the ultra-high↑∏φ  voltage grid will becom✘∑e the core link, whicΩ¥λh is determined by the stage of Chi•≥β∞na's economic development, tδ×π"he centralised distribution of ™$β¶energy characteristics.

"Smart grid is a developmΩ♣↔ent goal." Academiciaπ n of the Chinese Academy of Engi≥•neering, the Southern Power Gγ₽rid Corporation Expert Commγσ•✘ittee Director Li Li L ↓i, said in an intervie £≈£w with reporters, the development ♠♠≈of energy and electricity hφ∞ave 3 laws to follow, ‍✘'including the law of science and tech★€≠nology development, the law of soci↓♥σ↓al development and th¶>♥ e law of market development.

China's famous po≥©λwer system analysis, planning and simu‌÷lation experts, academician of the Chinγδγese Academy of Engineering£¥ Yu Yixin believes t←♠hat the smart grid will c®Ω ↕hange the way people l∏★φ®ive and work like the Internλ←♦et, the realization of t‌σhe smart grid requir'★es a long transition, sustained res★↔earch and development and a vari∞∏ety of technologies for long-™↔term coexistence.

What is certain is that in the conte¥•>xt of the third industrial revolutio↑Ω<≠n, the integration of power grid anσφ‌d information technoloβ>gy is an inevitable trend, whether we f∑ ™ocus on the current smartergrid or our ‌≥♣‌ideal smartgrid, to create a high♠‍∞♠ly efficient grid will be the co₩¶☆re content of the ene☆‍₹rgy Internet.

The impact of Internet ♥₩↑thinking on energy

Energy is a traditional indu§"stry, the Internet is→® an emerging industry, the integratioσσ₽∞n of the two will certain≠€ly bring the concept of collision, th≈≠λ e concept of change may be the be∏ ginning of technical and institu‌tional change.

"The traditional power indusπ∏★try by the natural monopo¶<¥ly characteristics and securityΩφ constraints, the sensitivit✔β'γy of information technology ∑¥is not enough." Li Li Li academφ>✔ician interviewed by a re∑≥∏porter expressed such a view.

"If the grid intelligent or ★¥'in the traditional grid ar÷§ chitecture through inf÷§$γormation technology and intellig∑±ent means, to solve the problem of×δ≈₽ equipment utilisation, securiγ♣ty and reliability, ‍"↓power quality and renewable£♦₩✔ energy access, the fundamental¶β∏ difference between the ene∑∞λ₹rgy Internet is the use of Internet con<φcepts, methods and tecΩ↔hnologies to achieve a major change β•in the energy infrastru≥₩≠cture architecture itself, making the  ¶∞energy of open intercon‍<★nection and exchangeβ•• Sharing can be as convenient as ™>σsharing information on th≈€∞↑e Internet." Cao Junwei said.

Openness, interconnect¶"ion, reciprocity and sharing are the ch↑λ≥aracteristics of Intern←σ$σet thinking, while the↑ ≤∞ traditional energy ♣₽£industry places more emphasis on ♣δΩproduction, professionalism and ₹‍Ωsecurity. A number of experts believe © that the development of di÷λ≥stributed energy has giv×↕∞en the energy industry an opportu®‍ nity to transform, with the tr↑↑aditional power industry emphasiseφε€ s the development mode of generat>∞‍ion, transmission, di♦±§stribution and transformati•✘on, distributed energy ‍ makes the energy flow,σ power flow changes, δ↓the operation of the loc≈®∑al microgrid needs to be open, sharin∏Ωg and other concepts embedded in th✘₽÷e energy and power in↔™Ωdustry needs to face.

The Internet is in≠∏ε∑visible and borderless, and the♠Ω development of energy Inteπ→✔ rnet will also be open and ce∏≈ilingless, only a large amount of inn<₩↕ovation and practice will γ©☆§bring about a brand new energy industry↑.
