Energy Internet concept was b≥±✘orn ten years ago
From 22 to 24 April, at the foot of F≤≥ragrant Hill in Beijing, a num<♣↔ber of academicians and more than 50 e∑∏'xperts and scholars participated in ₹>an academic conferen₹☆γce on the theme of en¥♠$ergy Internet. Conference☆€₽ parties on the concept and structur$♣✔e of the energy Internet, energy I×♣nternet operation mechanism and market♦ ¥γ model and other topics for in-₹✔depth discussion, which is so far>₹ China's academic commun§↔ity for the energy Internet at the& § highest level of a seminar meeting≤★₽.
When did the concept of ☆♣φenergy Internet come into b™∏∏eing? Cao Junwei, a researcher at∞÷ Tsinghua University's Institu↔☆✔te of Information Technology, who has <₹δαlong been engaged in cross-disciplinaΩ±♦ry research on informatiβ ∞on and energy and power'∞" technologies, believes that i'™n 2004, The Economist magazine publishe÷β₽ d an article called "buildin<≈÷gtheenergyinternet",¶ which is the earliest literature to f↔↕←£ormally put forward €☆∞this viewpoint.
In 2008, Thomas Friedman, a fπ₽↕amous American journalist and winner ofεα three Pulitzer Prizes for j±•$→ournalism, introduced the energyδ internet in his monoσ←graph "The World is€≠ε♣ Hot, Flat and Crowded",πΩ which is also the in itial exploration of €✘₩∞the energy internet at the eco ≤nomics level.
Explorations at the technical le∏↓vel also took place around 20ελ08, when Germany put forward th£÷÷e E-ENERGY programme, with an invest&ment of about 140 million euros ±, to make full use of inform♥♠ation and communication"•↑ technologies to solve the new probl>∑ems faced by the future¶£< power system dominated by↑≤₩ distributed energy supply, with the ←$ aim of creating a br₹"$and new energy Internet from the distri←αbution network to the circ≈γulating power grid.
In 2009, in the U.S. city of Dubuque± , IBM and the governmφ ®★ent began to build t↑∏'δhe first smart city witπ§♦×h an intelligent energ∑<♣×y network, in order σ↔ ∏to create a connection between all t♦¥ he resources of the city, incl₽uding water, electricit ≈y, oil, gas, transpo∏'∞rt, public services and so on.
The energy Internet has®®α↕ attracted widesprea₩ ¥©d attention in the country>γ÷, probably more because of Rifkin&α♣∑#39;s book "The Th±¥≤♠ird Industrial Revolution", whi↕δch imagines that "in the upcomingγ≈ era, we will need to create an &δπ#39;energy Internet'"♣↓×, so that hundreds of milφ lions of people can produce green ren$£♠ewable energy in their€≤ homes, offices and factories".γ↔φ green renewable energy."
The concept became more widely♦♣× known when Liu Zhenya,≤¶€ Chairman of State Grid C≠α'↓orporation, put forward the idea±₩™ of "building a global enerπ₹gy internet to serve↕♠ the sustainable develop £ment of human societ y" at an academic conf£®erence in Washington, D↕ .C., in 2014.
Different Perspectives on the ¶☆®Energy Internet
Liu Zhenya proposed in his♦™ book "Global Energy Interφπ∏net" that the global energy Inter♦↕®↔net is composed of t± ¥ranscontinental and ÷ transnational backbone α grids and power grids o₹<πf various voltage levels in various co☆©untries, connecting "one po ∞≤ le and one road" (≤α♣±the Arctic and the Equator) with la✔✘₹rge energy bases, adapting t✘'₽o the needs of accessing∑σ various distributed power sourc♥✔ es, and being able to transmit rπenewable energy sources s≈≠uch as wind energy, solar±↓ energy and ocean energy to vaσ♥π≈rious types of users, ÷≤>as well as providingγ™ a service for the sustainable developm∏ββ↓ent of human society. It can t€≈ransmit renewable energy such as λ✘♣wind energy, solar energy↓ε↔₩ and ocean energy to various typesσ♣σ± of users, and is a global energy >allocation platform with a wide♥≈λ range of services, strong configβ♦uration capability, ≠÷®high safety and reliability, and green∞≤ and low-carbon.
"The energy Internet'β in my mind is a comprehensive energyε✘ λ network composed of phy ®sical systems, namel₹¶←≈y the power grid, gas network, heat ne↓♦₹twork, transport network, etc.&quo≠✘t; Xue Yusheng, academiσ☆§≠cian of the Chinese Acade☆★my of Engineering and honorary ε •president of the State G★≥rid Electric Power Acad↓β₽emy, also offered his views.
Professor Yu Zitao, direct♥≠>γor of the Institute of Therm∏€al Engineering and Power Syst♣≥ems at Zhejiang University, bel ↕ieves that the development of a high-e♦₽fficiency energy network will take §αthe route of high-effiβφ ®ciency gradient utilisation, i"≤n which the energy of systemsσ₽×↑ that can independently output electr♠"₹♣icity, heat and cold♥λ will be used in a gradien&♠✔t manner, so that the comp↑÷←rehensive utilisation rate will re£λach more than 90%.
Academician Yu Yixin, on thφλe other hand, said that the basic coα≥ncepts of the energy Internet and t₹ ↓γhe smart grid that we have already discγ$ ussed are the same, and the content ∏₽can not be found to be ♠Ω different in principle, including in¥¶∑✘telligent universal transformers such €¶as electrical energy routers.
"Due to the different per <spectives that everyone stand↕★s on, different understanding&φ>∏s and views are generated, but fr÷₽↔om the academic level, itδ↕✘™ is not possible to 'φdistinguish who is ri₽©↓ght and who is wrong, because tπ∞☆♦he work can be carried out from diff÷♣erent levels." Cao Junwei told r∑★÷eporters that the development↓✔γΩ and construction of the ene★÷©rgy Internet is a complex system₩±atic project, which needs to sta₩♦♥→rt from the system architecture, techn↕×↑ology research and develo&•γ÷pment, standards develo→↕δpment, policy design andγ ÷↓ other aspects and links, and "≤ the way should be to tak★∏e the road of hierarchical grading, fr∞♥±om small scale to largβ¥βe scale, from simple to complex, f×↕λrom experimental to demonstration,≤≠ β and then to the maturi>λty of the promotion.
SmartGrid or SmarterGrid
Although there are a lβ♦ot of views on the energy Internet, ∞'₽there is an obvious common point isπ ≥® that the smart grid will play an impoδ≥rtant role in building the energy I↕₽€nternet, so understandin • g the content of the smart grid i≤↑s crucial to understanding the eneδ §αrgy Internet.
In fact, the indust↕" "ry and outside the concept≥÷ of smart grid understanding has long₽₽ existed different views, wheth✔λ•←er it is smartgrid or smartergri✘<d (smarter grid), people haveσ≈ their own views.
"The essence of the ×£♥smart grid should be optimisation.>→ The future of the grid, we can not re↓βπ¥ly mainly on people s±≠ cheduling, must be throug★¶h information technology and ∑¶computer science for au¶≠<tomatic regulation and control, to ach₹♥☆ieve the whole power syste♣ Ωm completely closed loop.✘€∞☆ For example, the curr¥$™ent scheduling in Shanghai, has b✘Ωeen initially done.&quo✔>t; Lu Qiang, an academician of the →ε$Chinese Academy of Sciences and a profe₽®ssor at Tsinghua University, put fo&"✘rward the concept of smart gri →d with hybrid cybernetic₽§βs, arguing that the entry of commβ↔>unication and mathematics int•' o the classical power$®&← system gave rise to the third indus↑∞₩♥trial revolution of th₩¥↑e power system, which gave rise to the→∏£ smart power system.
"By 2020 the State Grid Corpora♣ tion will have fully built a →γunified 'strong smar♥" ™t grid' with technol±γogy and equipment fully reaching th$α e international advanc↕φed level." According to Shu÷→β∞ Yinbiao, general manager of"£ the State Grid Corporation&, China's smart grid includes$↑€§ six links in the power system× Ω∑, namely power generation, transm₩α™ission, substation, disε↔>δtribution, power consum≤πption and dispatching,↓' and is characterised by the$↓♣♠ "smart" technologi∞€★ es of informatisation, di§Ωπ→gitisation, automation and •→interaction. China's↑♦™ smart grid is first of all€₩≥π a strong power grid, π₹♣in which, with a long distan↓ ¶×ce, large capacity transmission cha≠₩®↓racteristics of the π₽★ultra-high voltage grid will becomeα&♣ the core link, which is determined ® by the stage of China's economic d׶¥evelopment, the centraliseφ•←d distribution of energy charac÷λφφteristics.
"Smart grid is a developmen¶$t goal." Academician of the Chine₹ ↑se Academy of Engineering, the So≠♠∞™uthern Power Grid Corporation Expert C₩¥$ommittee Director Li •¶€ Li Li, said in an interview with rep€γ✔•orters, the development of eσ♣nergy and electricity have 3 laws to f↓"ollow, including the law of science and"σ★↕ technology development, the law π≥of social development and≈ ↔ the law of market developmen¶∏≤∑t.
China's famous powerπε" system analysis, planning and simula•>≠δtion experts, academician£β£ of the Chinese Academy o∞ε¶f Engineering Yu Yixin believes that±↕ the smart grid will change ♣δ×the way people live anδ₩≤d work like the Inte↑λrnet, the realization of t≈λαhe smart grid requires a$ε↑✘ long transition, sustained research aπ"≈'nd development and a varietσ×y of technologies for long->term coexistence.
What is certain is that in the con♣ ¥text of the third induδ÷strial revolution, the integra↕γtion of power grid and inform©∑€ation technology is an inevitable tr¶↕↕end, whether we focus on the current ↑>πsmartergrid or our ideal s₽ γ'martgrid, to create a highl¥∞y efficient grid will be ☆ ¥≤the core content of the↓→± energy Internet.
The impact of Internet thinking on±≥×™ energy
Energy is a traditiα© ₽onal industry, the Internet is®♠ an emerging industry, the integr™γation of the two wil'∏l certainly bring the concept of colli¶α>sion, the concept of change may be the ₹♥®beginning of technical and ins →¥titutional change.
"The traditional power indus↔βσtry by the natural monopoly characte©×♦ristics and security constrain→λts, the sensitivity of information t♣≤λechnology is not enough." Li βα↔Li Li academician interviewed by a r±∑€eporter expressed such a view.
"If the grid λ× ×intelligent or in the tradit™≥δ→ional grid architecture through✘' information technology andα₽ intelligent means, to so≠←lve the problem of equipment utilisati✘&on, security and reliability, power q£Ωδuality and renewable energy accessα≤¶∑, the fundamental differenc©₩ ♦e between the energy Internet is tαλhe use of Internet concepts, method™Ωs and technologies to achieve a major ☆¥•change in the energy infrastru∞₩cture architecture itself, making the e•✘✔✔nergy of open interc∞ onnection and exchange Sharing can׶ be as convenient as sharing infor←•mation on the Internet." Cao Junw §ei said.
Openness, interconnectσ >£ion, reciprocity and shari₽φ∑ng are the characteris'©✔tics of Internet thinking, while Ω₩the traditional energy industr$ ®y places more emphasis on produ £¶ction, professionalism and security.♠★" A number of experts believe thaπ ∑€t the development of distribu><§≤ted energy has given the e≥→♠≠nergy industry an opportunity to tra€♠σnsform, with the traditio ÷₩nal power industry emphasi§ ses the development mode of generati↔λ♦on, transmission, distrib"∏ution and transformation,♥" distributed energy φ∞✔makes the energy flow, power flow chan×βges, the operation of the local m∞±icrogrid needs to be open&≈, sharing and other concepts embed&$≈>ded in the energy and power industry ♣ λ₩needs to face.
The Internet is invisible and bβ orderless, and the development ofφ×¥ energy Internet wil©♣≠ l also be open and ceilingless,☆>'∞ only a large amount of innoδ≥≈♥vation and practice will bring aboβ$>♣ut a brand new energβ>y industry.
